States Recap

Friday

200 MR

Our 200 MR team of Ben, Kevin, Declan and Andres after an early morning rise and swimming at a time they are not used to competing managed to get 16th and sneak into the consolation finals at night. With a LTB breaststroke split of 26.95 from Kevin and solid performances from the rest, we end up in 13th place overall.

100 Fly

In prelims Andres finished with a time of 53.3 and came back for round two at night, ending up 14th in the state.

Diving

Simon finished the season with a 18th place over all at states! Just two spots away from making it back to consolation finals with a score of 208.55

Saturday

After our first day of prelims and finals, we were much better prepared to get up and race on Saturday morning. The energy was there and we knew we needed to put the work in in the morning so that we would be happy in the evening.

100 Back

Dropping .2 seconds Andres moved up from his entry in this event and squeezed into the top 8, the final heat. He then dropped another 3 tenths bringing his school record time down to a 53.55 and earning a spot on the podium, a place 7th overall.

100 Breast

Placing 14th in the morning Kevin managed to make it back for consolation finals in his 100 Breast. At finals he then dropped 4 tenths of a second, moving him up to 11th place in the consolation heat and finally broke 1:01! Bringing his LTB time down to a 1:00.66

400 FR

Our 400 FR team of Kevin, Devon, Kieran, Andres ended up in 14th place in the morning and held that place in the consolation finals at night. All relay members had solid performances but most notably they were able to hit these times at the end of a long weekend of competition. This was the 8th time Andres and 7th time Kevin got up and raced in a 48 hour period. To be able to match the times they've done this season at the end of a long weekend of competing is something to be proud of.

All and all it was a fantastic end to a wonderful season. We managed to make it back to finals in all of our events and as a team placed 19th in the state, which was thanks to all members of the state's team. The weekend was spent swimming fast and having fun and would not have been the same without the support from our Alternate of the year, Travis, and the parents that were able to attend and support our team. We ended the weekend celebrating Ben's birthday and enjoying delicious Irish food on St. Patricks' day before heading back to Pittsburgh in our van sipping on shamrock shakes. As I said after WPIALs I couldn't be prouder of all that we were able to accomplish this season and I look forward to celebrating the stellar season we have had with all of you at our upcoming banquet!
