Recap
Wow! A day later and I'm still beaming with excitement from this day. What a fabulous way for many of our swimmers to see all of their hard work pay off and a fantastic bench mark for many of our athletes going forward to WPIALs. I will send out the meet results and follow up in the future with a drive link to all of the photos I was able to gather from the day.
A few things to point out -- Our girls 200 MR FINALLY got their WPIAL cut and they made it by 3 seconds and they improved their times and seed in both of the other relays. Our boys knocked a few seconds off of their cuts to put them in an even better seed going into WPAILs. Ben got his WPIAL cuts in both of his events today and swam out of his mind well. It was so wonderful to see all of his hard work, while dealing with an injury pay off and I can not wait to see how he ends his senior year. Halle got her 200 FR cut and is only a tenth off of the 50 ( she split a 26.0 and 25.7 in her relays so there is no doubt in my mind that she can be there) . Kieran dropped in his 200 Free putting him in a better place going into WPIALs and got his cut in the 100 Breast. Aidan dropped a ton of time in his 100 Breast and is knocking on the door to a WPIAL cut ( I loved watching his club coach go bonkers on the pool deck cheering for him, watching all of their work come to fruition). Sophie went a best time in her 100 back (even though she lost her nose plug!!!) and had a great leading split in her 50 free in the relay. Allison dropped a bit more time in the 200 IM, split at 1:02.0 in her 100 free and pulled off a 26.8 50 free split in the relay! Martha managed a 27.3 in the 50 with an awesome start and turn and dropped nearly 9 seconds in her 500 free. Antionette had a solid 27.4 in her 50 and dropped nearly 1.5 seconds in her hundred bringing her to a low 1:01. Claire got down to a 28.6 in her 50, dropping an unheard of nearly 1.5 seconds to get there! Megan, our swimmer convert to diving still managed to pull off a 28.1 in her 50 and placed 13th overall in diving the night before nailing all 11 dives! Speaking of diving, Simon scored a total of 348 points and got himself a second place. Annie had a lot of really nice dives but unfortunately was unable to complete one, which caused a disqualification but we are excited to see her continue to progress this season. Elena dropped a half of a second in her 100 free and 1.5 seconds in her 100 back, and pulled out a 1:03.0 relay split outstanding performances not to mention a week of flu like sicknesses. Lydia had a nice 36 sec split in the breast in the relay and also dropped another 1.5 seconds in her 100 breast in her individual. She too is knocking on the door to a WPIAL cut in her future. Emiliana had a solid 50 fly in the relay and dropped another second in her 100 breast. Heather had two commendable swims considering being out of the water for two weeks of training prior to the event. Oh, it seems I've gone on a rant about the girls, now back to our boys...
In addition to those mentioned above, Devon's individual events where right on track for WPIALs and he managed to pull of a 23.78 relay split in his 50. After two days of travel for an academic recruiting trip and a layover leaving little time to sleep, let alone get a proper shave in for MACs Travis still managed to drop more time in his 50 free, match that split in the relay and go a season best time in his 100 breast. Declan had two solid performances in his individual events and relay splits right on track for LTB performances at WPIALs. Lachlin managed to drop .7 second in his 50 free and ended the meet with a 26.71, an outstanding time for a first year athlete. Nick also dropped into the 26s in his 50 free, starting the season above a 28 and pulled off a 1:06.00 in his 100 back nearly a 2 second drop. Zeke dropped an insane 21 seconds in his 500 free and 2 seconds in his 100 breast making for a season best time of 1:10.7. And last but certainly not least Kevin and Andres both had outstanding performances in their respective events. Andres ended the day with a second and third place in his individual events, dropping about a half second in both of them from the rest of his times this season. Kevin had a steller finish in his 100 free a 50.7, season best, giving him a 4th place finish and 2nd place finish in his 100 breast. These two were key players on our 1st and 3rd place relays as well.
All in all a fantastic weekend for QV Swim + Dive, one more dual meet to go then it's time for WPIALs and STATES -- an exciting time of year!
